Academic network

Popular Psychology, Self-Help Culture and the Happiness Industry

I am a founder and convenor of the international and interdisciplinary academic network Popular Psychology, Self-Help Culture and the Happiness Industry. The other convenors are:
  • Edgar Cabanas (Universidad Camilo José Cela, Madrid, Spain)
  • Dylan Kerrigan (University of Leicester, UK)
  • China Mills (City, University of London, UK)
  • Ole Jacob Madsen (University of Oslo, Norway)

The network provides a forum for scholars from across the social sciences and humanities who share an interest in therapeutic cultures and global mental health. Over the last five years, the network has brought together a large and diverse group of academics, and it has been the starting point for a range of original projects. These include, among others, the establishment of the book series Therapeutic Cultures in collaboration with Routledge and the publication, in 2020, of the Routledge International Handbook of Therapeutic Cultures.
